1. BACKGROUND: discuss the target grade level, what came before, how it "fits," how it fulfills ALL the components of PBL grade level: 7th grade social studies -j.t.
We choose the topic about the immigration because is a national political concern. How we know for example, exists in the congress some kind of reform to get solution toward millions illegal people that there are living in the shadow. Immigration is a social problem because million or children, American citizens who born in this country, but they illegal parents were arrested recently by thousands, those children who got to take care of them? Are they citizens of second class? Where are their civil rights as natural American Citizen? Economic issue, regarding this topic there are different opinions about the economic contributions of the emigrants, but the fact is that Bill Gates said in the congress that we need people to work in some specific position. In addition, several states need today people to work in the farm until the fact that they are passing some laws regulation to bring immigrant to work in their farms. (y.s)

Background- Grade level is 7th grade Social Studies. The theme is Immigration. The reason we chose this topic regarding immigration is because it is a National political concern. We want to conjoin the high immigrant population of most of our school districts with emergent identity issues for adolescents. Currently, there is an intensifying national debate with the resurgence of nativism. We want students to better understand, and to facilitate their own acculturation and identify formation processes and/or tolerance in a country wholly founded by immigrants. Congress is demanding some kind of reform to find a solution for the millions of illegal immigrants that are currently living in the shadows. Immigration is a social problem because millions of children who are born in this country, American Citizens, fall into broken homes because immigration agents arrest their parents. Who will become responsible for these children? Are they Americans or second-class citizens? Where are their civil rights as natural American Citizens?
With this being said, the question we posed to the students is: America is experiencing another wave of nativism. Examine the historic context of immigration and how it can be used to make America the inclusive society we think it should be.
PBL is defined as a model for classroom activity that is more student-centered than teacher-centered. It deals with real world issues that students can relate to and provide feedback for. The reason this topic can qualify as PBL is because it is definitely student-centered. It contains issues that relate to the real world, and for most children, it is their everyday. This project will give them an opportunity to ask questions and find answers by communicating with their family members who came from other countries. It will help them connect with their culture and form their developing identities.

4. TECHNOLOGY:
Technology enables PBL. Students use tools such as word processors, spreadsheets, and databases to perform tasks like outlining, drafting essays, analyzing numerical data, and keeping track of collected information. E-mail, electronic mailing lists, forums, and other online applications facilitate communication and collaboration with the world outside the classroom. The Web provides access to museums, libraries, and remote physical locations for research. Students can create electronic compositions of art, music, or text collaboratively; participate in a simulation or virtual world; and work together to accomplish a real task or to improve global understanding. And all work can be published on the Web for review by real audiences, not just a single teacher, class, or school.
When students are challenged to get to work solving real-life problems, the whole world becomes a classroom. Here we offer a guide for getting started.This part of the project is dedicated to demonstrating how new technologies can be the catalyst for teaching and learning in an era where new skills – and the ability to change as times demand – are paramount.
Today’s students grew up with technology and expect to use it to get information, solve problems and communicate. These are the very skills they need now and in the future.
The most imortant part of learning about immigration is interview which helps to create and summarise the whole pictures of all aspects of immigration process.
To record interviews, students may use
tape recorders (audio storage device),
mp3 player with microphone attachment (consumer electronics device that stores, organizes and plays audio files),
computer equipped with a microphone (used to manipulate with data according to a list of instruction),
video camera (used for electronic motion picture acquisition).
To present findings, students may use
transparency overhead projector (used to display images to an audience),
an opaque projector (used to project images of book pages, pictures),
web cam (provide views into homes,panoramic views of cities and the countryside),
cell phone (used for mobile voice or data communication ).
Students will engage in many different forms of technology. Students will use camera and editing technology for interview work. Television and DVD players will be used for playback and recording of important films, specials and documentaries. The internet provide a important films, specials and documentaries about inmigration. The internet provide an important tool for research and development of the interactive classroom discussion board. The teacher can also use teh internet for assement purposes and recognize of each student.
As facilitator in this process, students will be provided with some useful websites, where they can find information about the topic.
The pursuit of knowledge has never been as exciting as it is today. Computers, the Internet,new digital technology, accessibility to hundreds of thousands of databases all over the world, and the ability to learn in a mobile environment allow us all to participate in a new paradigm of technology-enabled education.
New technologies enhance our ability to create new ideas, make discoveries, prove our theories, test our knowledge and realize our dreams like never before.
5. ASSESSMENT: provide actual assessment pieces (at a minimum, a self assessment piece, a peer assessment piece, and a facilitator assessment piece [a rubric])
Peer evaluations and journals will be a focus of assessment. Students will be required to post to discussion boards for participation assessment and reports, logging, interviews and recipes all proviede tangible methods of grading. Finally their individual roles in the carnival the two presentations will serve as the basis for the complet grade. (y.s)
6. CULMINATING ACTIVITY: describe your culminating activity and expalin why it was chosen; show how you will make the transition between the project and the next topic of study
Remember, all students in your "class" must be able to participate in a sustained investigation related to the theme and topic.
OPTIONAL: include "support" pieces - those hand-outs that you would distribute to all students to add to the structure and clarity of the project. Regarding the culminating activity, students will be divided into stations and present the information gathered including interviews, flies, native clothes, family picture and food to an array of community and school members.
